MobiFone once again takes the lead for mobile service quality among mobile phone operators in Vietnam in 2008, though the gap between it and Viettel has narrowed, according to the results of the latest test administered by the Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC).
MobiFone ranked first for voice quality, followed by Viettel and VinaPhone. The ratio of failed calls for MobiFone was also the lowest.
This network was also tops in ratio of successful calls to Call Center. Viettel and VinaPhone ranked the second and third in these categories, respectively.
For CDMA networks, S-Fone ranked the first in all categories, followed by EVN Telecom.
On paper, MobiFone ranked the second after EVN Telecom for the ratio of client complaints; however, MobiFone has more than 31 million subscribers while EVN Telecom has less than 1 million.
This time the MoIC’s Quality Control Agency measured the service quality of three GSM mobile networks in Hanoi and two CDMA networks in HCM City.
Notably, all mobile networks exceeded the national standards on the 2008 test while in 2007, some networks failed to meet Vietnam’s criteria.
In 2007, MobiFone ranked first in all criteria and the gap between MobiFone and its rivals was quite large. But in 2008, the gap was narrowed considerably.
Experts say that this year competition among mobile networks will be not only in terms of technical aspects but in all aspects, including customers’ preferences.
Vietnam had signed up an additional 3.2 million new phone subscribers in January 2009, an on year increase of over 160 per cent, which has raised the country’s total number of subscribers to 82.6 million by the end of January 2009, including nearly 49 million belonging to the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT)
There are seven mobile networks in Vietnam namely VinaPhone, MobiFone and Viettel S-Fone, EVN Telecom, HT Mobile and GTel. (VietNamNet)
