After nearly 50 years of construction and development, Vietnam Machinery Erection Corporation (Lilama) has become a leading trademark on the domestic and international construction markets.
The today success comes from efforts of many generations of machinery installers who have overcome numerous difficulties and challenges and carried out thousands of projects.
Building upOn December 1, 1960, the Ministry of Architecture, now the Ministry of Construction, decided to transform the Electricity and Water Mechanical Department into the Hanoi Machinery Erection Company. In October 1980, the company was transformed its operating model into a partnership enterprise. New constructions appeared throughout the nation, including Hoa Binh and Tri An hydropower plants, Bim Son, Chinfon, Hoang Thach, But Son and Ha Tien cement plants, and Bai Bang paper mill. In the 1990s, in addition to machinery erection activities, Lilama’s installers also manufactured thousands of tonnes of equipment for major modern projects. Remarkably, the corporation successfully fabricated internationally standardised gas-liquefying equipment which used to be imported like oil and gas tanks. Since then, the Lilama trademark was popular with domestic and international partners, becoming a spotlight of the Vietnamese economy.
Seizing control
In the 1996 - 2000 period, Lilama Corp invested in a series of modern equipment like 100-mm thick plate bending machines, 600-tonne hydraulic compressors, 6.5-m diameter flanging machines and automatic welders. At the same time, the corporation focused on building its equipment manufacturing factories in southern, central and northern regions, applied ISO-based quality management policies and expanded commercial ties. Hence, the quality of products has been bettered day after day while implementation duration has been shortened. Becoming the first Engineering Construction and Contraction (EPC) contractor in Vietnam, Lilama has asserted its position. The Government has named Lilama the EPC contractor for 300 MW Uong Bi thermoelectric plant, which costs US$300 million. This changed the status of the company from a subcontractor to a main contractor. Then, Lilama won the trust of the Government to be the EPC contractor for Ca Mau 1 and Ca Mau 2 power plants, Nhon Trach 450 gas, electricity and fertiliser complex project, and O Mon thermal power plant. Lilama was also named by the Government to be the leader in many projects to manufacture equipment for hydropower, thermoelectric and cement projects.
Break through
Asserting its position as an EPC contractor, Lilama has invested in diversifying products like construction materials, power plants and tourist sites. Especially, from 2006 to 2010, Lilama will be developed into an industrial construction group operated in the form of a holding enterprise. After nearly 50 years of development, Lilama is proud to carry out more than 4,000 projects in the country. These achievements are acknowledged by the Party and the State with noble titles. Most recently, the Labour Hero title is another milestone in the history of Lilama.
