Total tax debts of Vietnam were estimated to reach nearly VND16.3 trillion last year, according to a review by the General Department of Taxation.
The figure includes VND2.1 trillion of overdue tax debts, representing an on-year rise of 20 per cent and accounting for 12.5 per cent of the total, and VND3.69 trillion of to-be-settled tax debts, 67 per cent and 22.7 per cent, respectively.
Retrievable tax debts, meanwhile, were VND10.55 trillion, making up for 64.7 per cent of the total.
The Government Inspectorate has identified VND11 trillion (US$647 million) in missed taxes over the past three years. Most are related to over due tax debts; inappropriate tax levies; improper tax refunds and tax-debt management.
