Viettel Starts Work on US$50 Mln High-tech Center in Hanoi
The Military Telecom Corporation (Viettel) on March 4 began construction on a high-tech center in Hanoi with total investment of US$50 million.
Located in Hoa Lac High-tech Zone, the 25-floor office building will be the first work of the project and is scheduled for finish in two years, said Viettel general director Hoang Anh Xuan.
The Viettel high-tech hub would be one of Viettel’s projects providing infrastructure for the Viettel-Chunghwa Telecom joint venture’s operations in Vietnam.
“There is big demand on the domestic information market for data system like that, thus Viettel’s high-tech center and the development of the IT industry will create an important foundation for the development of multilateral IT, contributing to forming brand names for the domestic digital industry in the international market, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan said at the ground-breaking ceremony.
Viettel, which made debut in 2004, now is leading Vietnam with some 28 million subscribers. It provides mobile phone, fixed line telephone, wireless fixed telephone and Internet services.
The firm earned revenues of VND33 trillion (US$2 billion) in 2008, doubling the figure of 2007. It is expected to earn revenues of between US$3 billion and US$4 billion this year. (Local sources)
