Vietnam Moves to Build Pepper Trading Floor
The Vietnam Pepper Association (VPA) is speeding up construction of a pepper trading floor to facilitate local farmers and companies’ business.
The VPA said the floor will help the farmers and companies reduce loss caused by dependence on export prices quoted at India and Britain trading floors.
So far this year, Vietnamese companies exported black pepper for US$,2400/ton and white pepper for US$3,500/ton.
But middlemen have reduced the prices to only US$1,800 and US$3,000, respectively.
The VPA has advised the farmers not to sell pepper if the price shrinks further.
In the first two months of this year, Vietnam exported 16,000 tons of pepper worth US$36 million. The country expected to export around 20,000 tons by the end of March. (Vietnam Economic Times)
