Vietnam Revises Down GDP Growth for 2008 to 6.18 per cent from 6.23 per cent
The government of Vietnam has revised down the economic growth figure for 2008 to 6.18 per cent from 6.23 per cent which was issued by the end of last year, the General Statistical Office said.
The actual GDP growth was far below the 8.5 per cent target set by the country’s lawmakers.
The GSO said the agriculture sector was rising 4.07 per cent, the industry and construction sector was up 6.11 per cent and the services sector increased 7.18 per cent last year.
In December 2008, the GSO estimated the growth rates for the three sectors were 3.80 per cent, 6.33 per cent and 7.20 per cent respectively.
It said Vietnam’s economy is estimated to have risen only 3.1 per cent on year, and continued in a down trend from a 5.4 per cent growth in the fourth quarter of 2008, government figures showed. (GSO March 2009)
