Vietnam-India Trade Hit US$2.5B in 2008
Vietnam's trade with India was estimated to have hit US$2.5 billion last year, surpassing US$2 billion set by for 2010, the state-run Saigon Liberation newspaper said, quoting a senior official of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry Thursday.
Vo Tan Thanh, head of the VCCI's office in southern Vietnam said at a trade promotion conference held in Ho Chi Minh City on April 1, and noted of that figure, Vietnam bought US$2.1 billion goods from India and shipped US$388 million of coal and electronic products to the foreign country.
Vietnam's key imports from India included animal feed, materials, chemicals, medicines, machinery, Thanh said.
In 2007, two-way trade between the two countries jumped 51 per cent on year to US$1.5 billion.
India recently decided to impose antidumping tax on Vietnam's yarns, fabrics, compact discs-recordable (CD-R). (Saigon Liberation)
