On May 28 -30 at Hanoi International Center for Exhibition in Hanoi (I.C.E. Hanoi), Reed Tradex Company will organize the exhibitions of “Vietnam Manufacturing Expo 2009” and “NEPCON Vietnam 2009” which are the largest, only shows of the manufacturing and electronics industry in Vietnam so far. On the occasion, Vietnam Business Forum has an interview with Ms. Nichapa Yoswee, Managing Director of Reed Tradex Company, one of Thailand’s and Indochina’s leading exhibition and conference organizers, about these events.
Can you briefly introduce about Reed Tradex?

Can you update key information of “Vietnam Manufacturing Expo 2009” and “NEPCON Vietnam 2009”?
“Vietnam Manufacturing Expo 2009” consists of 4 international exhibitions on machinery and technologies for industrial parts manufacturing. The exhibitions of “InterPlas Vietnam,” “InterMold Vietnam,” “Automotive Manufacturing Vietnam,” and “Automation Vietnam” will feature the newest innovative technologies from around the world for 4 key manufacturing sectors – plastics and rubber, mold and die, auto parts, and automation and assembly technologies.
The exhibitions will showcase more than 1,000 new technologies and innovations of 450 manufacturers from 20 countries and national pavilions from China, India, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.
Vietnam Manufacturing 2009 is the largest and only show of the manufacturing industry in Vietnam in the first half of this year. A series of four international exhibitions, gathering around 200 manufacturers from 20 countries and territories, will bring the world of technologies to the industrialists to response the demand of the Vietnamese industry and is designed to truly promote the capabilities of manufacturers.

Manufacturing is the key industry of Vietnam’s economy which has been getting a firm growth in recent years, therefore, the exhibitions meet the industry’s need of technology and know-how transfer.

The Vietnamese Government is speeding up the development of the electronics industry and Vietnam is emerging as an important destination for manufacturing electronic products, therefore, NEPCON Vietnam 2009 is the only platform for Vietnamese electronics community to gather to update and upgrade themselves and their business. It will gather 250 international technology providers who will get connected to over 10,000 of their future buyers and partners from across Vietnam. This show is also expected to be a highlight for international visitors to seek local partners.

I believe that NEPCON Vietnam will not only meet Vietnamese industrialists’ demands but also introduce new innovations and new trends through new technologies, therefore, it will partly help Vietnamese firms develop the supporting industry in the electronic manufacture sector.

As part of a world-renowned NEPCON series of electronics event which has been organized in 9 countries around the world, the launch of NEPCON Vietnam in 2008 in Hanoi made a difference to both exhibitors and visitors.  It paved the way for exhibitors around the world to effectively enter the market and form new business connections.  It opened the gate for Vietnamese industrialists to step onto another level of electronics development.

Can you make some comparisons between this year’s events and last year’s ones?
In the global economic situation, exhibitors are very careful in making their investment decisions. That’s why some of exhibitors still come to participate but a smaller scale. This year, we have more new exhibitors, more new technologies and the show takes all the floor space of the exhibition hall and become the largest event.

In term of visitors, of course, due to the economic situation, people will try hard to learn more to be more successful. The response so far from the previous exhibitions, we received lots of Vietnamese people who were interested to visit the shows. I believe the exhibitions will really bring you, something university of knowledge, and it would be a good place for Vietnamese industrialists to go and learn.

NEPCON Vietnam 2008 welcomed 7,028 visitors who were enthused by the advent of new technologies from over 200 companies from 20 countries.

What is the percentage of Vietnamese exhibitors and foreign ones at the shows in Vietnam?
100 per cent of our exhibitors are from overseas to display products and services at our shows in Vietnam. So far we have not got any Vietnamese exhibitor. At first, we almost bring international people coming to the shows to seek partners in Vietnam. Next year, probably, we will have some elements of Vietnamese exhibitors to participate. I think it is a right model.

What is the common response from Vietnamese people to Reed Tradex exhibitions so far?
I think the results were very impressive. The exhibitors are very keen to come hear, to the Vietnamese market, and Vietnamese visitors and industrialist are very interesting and exciting to go to our events to learn new things and exhibits. So, during the time of opening exhibition floors, there were a lot of people, mainly industrialists went to the shows and ask lots of questions to the exhibitors. And so far I believe that many Vietnamese people or enterprises have been presenting brands, become agents of international machineries in Vietnam.

What is the future business plan of Reed Tradex in Vietnam?
We have a long-term commitment to come here and do business in Vietnam. Actually, we have not considered we are an exhibition organizer, we consider we are Vietnamese and we have to understand Vietnamese people, we have to understand the needs of the country. So, we did the same things like in Thailand. In my opinion, the Government should encourage this type of exhibitions which are really important for the country’s growth.
