Apparel enterprises should actively seek new orders from potential markets like Japan, Middle East, South Africa and Russia, according to Vu Duc Giang, General Director of Vietnam Textile and Garment Group (Vinatex).

In the face of the economic crisis, apart from maximally exploiting the domestic market, the export expansion to new markets is very vital to help remain the production and employment.

In the first quarter of this year, the textiles and garments sector’s export turnover reached US$1.9 billion, down 0.1 per cent on year, attributed to the consumption reduction of traditional markets like the U.S. and EU.

The Vinatex director recommends enterprises should build a specific strategy for the Japanese market in order to take advantage of benefits from the Vietnam-Japan Economic Partner Agreement.

According to HCM City Association of Textiles and Garments, the Uniqlo Corporation, Japan’s leading apparel importer and distributor, will send a delegation to the city to survey the market and discuss cooperation with around 50 local firms.

In addition, apparel exporters could seek new orders at the Russian market as Vietnam will organize a fair on export goods here in September this year. (Investment, News)
