According to the Vietnam Pepper Association, pepper price has increased by VND2,000/kilo from last month to VND32,000-VND33,000/kilo.

Over the past month, the price rose by VND5,000/kilo from the lowest level of VND27,500/kilo early March 2009.

The price hike is mostly thanks to the fact that local farmers have kept their product instead of rushing to sell as before.

In March 2009, export price of Vietnamese black pepper was averaging at US$1,820-US$1,850/ton while price of white pepper was US$3,100-US$3,200/ton.

Vietnam exported 25,000 tons of pepper worth US$63 million in the first quarter of 2009, up 64.5 per cent on year in volume and 15.5 per cent in value. (Vietnam & World Economy)
