Vietnam 08' Agri Products Shipments to China +39 per cent at US$.19B: Customs

Vietnam shipped US$1.9 billion worth of agricultural products to China in 2008, representing an on year rise of 39 per cent and accounting for the country's farm produce exports value, Vietnam's customs authorities said.
 
The Southeast Asian country bought US$1.7 billion worth of farm produces from China last year, meaning a surplus of US$203.25 million, the customs authorities said.
 
Natural rubber export grew 29 per cent in 2007-2008 period, however, making only 3.32 per cent of China's market share and shipments to the foreign country are shrinking, they added.
 
Coffee exports expanded 30 per cent to US$32 million, accounting for 1.5 per cent of Vietnam's coffee export volume.
 
Cashew nuts notched up US$181.8 million last year, and now China buys 16.6 per cent of Vietnam's cashew nut export volume, ranking Vietnam's third biggest importer behind the U.S. (28.5 per cent market share) and the Netherlands (17.2 per cent).
 
Vietnam imports fertilizer and animal feeds from China. Last year, Vietnam bought US$355.4 million of NPK, up 8 per cent on year and US$36.5 million of kali fertilizer, compared with US$8.06 million in 2007. (Vietnam Economic Times)
