Vietnam to Export 980,000 Tons of Coffee in 2009
Vietnam may export around 980,000 tons of coffee in 2009, with revenue of US$1.964 billion, the Vietnam Cocoa and Coffee Association, or Vicofa, forecast.
The association said the exports will see decreases of 8.6 per cent in terms of volume and 17.4 per cent in terms of value against 2008.
Export price will average at US$1,800/ton, down from US$2,044/ton in 2008.
According to figures provided by the General Customs Department, Vietnam exported 289,000 tons of coffee in the first two months of 2009, raking in US$44 million, up 16.62 per cent on year in volume, but down 4.41 per cent in value.
Belgium was the biggest importer of Vietnamese coffee in the Jan-Feb 2009 period, spending US$75.4 million on buying 50,598 tons of coffee from Vietnam.
Followings were Germany, the U.S. and Italy with total import revenues of US$54.9 million; US$43.38 million; and US$43.03 million, and import volume of 35,184 tons; 27,613 tons; and 27,470 tons, respectively. (Vinanet.vn)
