Vietnam-U.K. Q1 Trade +17.8 per cent to US$492.32Mln

Bilateral trade between Vietnam and the United Kingdom (U.K.) reportedly hit US$492.32 million in the first quarter of this year, up 17.8 per cent on-year, said the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT)’s information website.
 
Of the figure, Vietnam exported US$433.84 million worth of commodities, up 18.7 per cent on-year and imported US$57.39 million, up 11.7 per cent, resulting in the country’s trade surplus of US$376.35 million during the period, up 19.8 per cent.
 
In March, two-way trade saw an on-year increase of 14.3 per cent to US$161.53 million.
 
Among the country’s key export staples in March, footwear topped the list with US$33.8 million, down 27.5 per cent on-year, followed by cloths of US$15.9 million (+38.1 per cent), woodwork products of US$8.58 million (+34.6 per cent), coffee of US$4.97 million (+39.5 per cent), and seafood of US$2.1 million (+42.8 per cent).
 
It is one of Vietnam’s important trade partners from the EU and is among Vietnam’s top ten export markets. In 2007, bilateral trade stood at US$1.8 billion, including Vietnam's trade surplus of US$1.6 billion. (vinanet)
