Vietnam exported goods valued at US$988 million to Cambodia in 2008, compared with China’s US$784 million and Thailand’s US$674 million, Truong Cung Nghia, an official from the municipal investment and trade promotion center said May 28.

Apart from competitive advantages, Vietnamese producers should continue diversifying products and improving designs in order to maintain its top position in the neighboring market.

Vietnam and Cambodia agreed to accelerate border trade with a view to raising the two-way trade to more than US$2 billion this year, from US$1.7 billion last year.

Vietnam reportedly fetched US$252.2 million from goods exports to Cambodia in the first quarter of this year, down 21.8 per cent on-year, said the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT)’s information center.
