Vietnam reportedly earned US$54.988 million from exporting goods to Chile in the first four months this year, an on-year rise of 158 per cent thanks to sharp increases in crude oil exports.

Crude oil was the country’s biggest cash earner with US$34.6 million, making up 63 per cent of the country’s total export value during the time, said the news agency, adding that footwear, coffee and shirts were also key exports to Chile.

During the period, Vietnam also spent US$15.9 million on importing copper, cooking oil, fishmeal, salmon, fir and grapes from Chile, down 55 per cent on-year.

Trade between Vietnam and Chile in 2008 rose 9 per cent on-year to US$177.37 million, and jumped eight times higher than in 2002, said the Chilean Export Promotion Agency (ProChile). (Vietnam & World Economy)
