Nearly 500,000 Vietnamese Laborers Working Abroad
Approximately 500,000 Vietnamese laborers are now working in more than 40 countries and territories worldwide.
Between 2006 and 2008, the country sent 250,000 workers in 30 different sectors to foreign countries, increasing annual remittances to around US$2 billion over the period.
This year, Vietnam aims to have 90,000 laborers working abroad.
The country has set a goal to send 100,000 workers to foreign countries each year beginning in 2010 with laborers from poor and mountainous districts accounting for 80 per cent of overseas workers. (The People, News)
