More 22 Million S.q Metres of Houses Developed in H1

The Ministry of Construction has overviewed the business results of the first half of 2009, reporting that a total 22 million new square metres of houses were developed in the six-month period, with 11.4 million square metres in urban areas.
The total housing space in the country as of last month was one billion square meters, with an average of 12.2 square meters per capita. Of the total, urban areas account for 320.7 million square metres and rural areas 737.6 million square metres.
Regarding the real estate transaction, there have been 126 floors having registered with the Construction Ministry to be posted on the Internet, including 40 ones of Ha Noi and 74 others of Ho Chi Minh City. There have been over 8,700 individuals granted with brokerage and assessment certificates of real estates.
 
In terms of the implementation of the government’s Decisions No. 65, 66 and 67 on the development of social houses, the Ministry said so far there have had 267 dormitory projects with combined space of 4.9 million square meters on a total area of 554 hectares in 2009-2015. Property developers have registered to build 110 housing projects for workers with a total investment capital of VND25.5 trillion (US$1.5 billion) to provide six million square meters from now to 2015.
 
Meanwhile, 189 low-cost housing projects are also in the offing, to be developed between this year and 2015 to provide over seven million square meters of housing for low-income earners. These projects require total investment of VND27.2 trillion (US$1.6 billion) for 166,400 new apartments.
