Vietnam Needs 10,000 Workers to Build First Nuclear Power Plants
Vietnam is estimated to need between 6,000 and 10,000 workers for construction of its first two nuclear power plants of a combined capacity of 4,000 MW in the central province of Ninh Thuan beginning in 2013, said Dr. Vuong Huu Tan, director of the Vietnam Atomic Energy Commission (VAEC).
The country also needs more than 1,000 highly trained staff to manage and run the nuclear power plants once they are operational in 2020, Tan said.
VAEC will be in charge of establishing a center to train a high-quality cadre of future employees for the expected plants and will be responsible for providing continuing education for the staff once the plants are in operation.
The Southeast Asian country expects nuclear power to satisfy between 15 per cent and 20 per cent of the national energy consumption demand by 2050.
Russia’s Rosatom Nuclear Energy State Corporation; Toshiba, Hitachi, and Mitsubishi of Japan; and Areva of France are in negotiations with Vietnam to partially build four nuclear reactors worth between US$10 billion and US$15 billion for the plants. (Vietnam Economic Times)
