Four Vietnamese retailers have been listed in the 2009 Retail Asia-Pacific Top 500, co-rated by Retail Asia Magazine - a regional trade magazine, Euromonitor - a market information supplier, and KPMG - world renowned financial consultants and auditors.

The selected businesses include the Saigon Jewelry Holding Company (SJC), the Phu Nhuan Jewelry Joint Stock Company (PNJ), the Ho Chi Minh City Commercial Cooperative Union (Saigon Co.op), and the Saigon-Nguyen Kim Shopping Center.

This was the sixth consecutive year that PNJ has been listed in the 2009 Retail Asia-Pacific Top 500 and was the second time that it has won the silver award so far, said the Website.

The awarding ceremony will be held in Seoul, South Korea on October 15.

The award covers seven retail formats: convenience stores, department stores, health & beauty specialists, hypermarkets, specialty outlets, supermarkets, and other retailers from 14 economies, including Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, and Vietnam.

In the first half of this year, Vietnam reported total retail sales and services revenue of VND547.5 trillion (US$32.396 billion), up 20 per cent on-year, the government's General Statistics Office said. (Vietnam Economic Times, Vietstock)
