Vietnamese, Lao Businesses Meet for Investment Opportunities
Representatives from Vietnamese and Lao companies gathered at an investment forum held in Vientiane city on August 18 to discuss opportunities, Vietnam News Agency reported.
The event also attracted Vietnamese Former Vice President Truong My Hoa, Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Ta Minh Chau and Lao Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Thoongmy Phomvisay.
During the meeting, participants were briefed of investment environment and policies in Laos as well as the country’s areas of strength. Vietnamese investors are keen on energy, mineral exploitation, agro-forestry sector, industrial production and tourism.
Laotian businesses introduced their projects and called on Vietnamese partners to join hands with them for investment in Laos.
To date, Vietnamese firms have poured some US$2.6 billion in 161 projects in Laos.
The two countries aim to boost bilateral trade to US$1 billion by 2010 and US$2 billion by 2015. (VNA)
