Vietnamese and Cambodian businesses have recently inked a number of economic deals and investment agreements worth over US$400 million in Phnom Penh.

Officials from Cambodian ministries, sectors and localities and 20 Vietnamese groups and corporations gathered at an investment conference that was co-held by the Council for Development of Cambodia (CDC) and the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV).

At the event, CDC Secretary General Sok Chenda pledged that the Cambodian Government will create possible assistance to Vietnamese businesses when they invest in Cambodia.

The CDC official pointed to the need to speed up the two countries’ economic ties to be on a par with their political ties and time-honored traditional friendship.

In the first half this year, Vietnamese businesses saw their investment in Cambodia rise 80%, compared with the same period last year.

BIDV Chairman Tran Bac Ha was elected to be the head of a board that will lobby for the establishment of the Vietnamese investors’ association in Cambodia. (VNA)
