Vietnam Overseas Remittances Likely at US$6B in 2009: Central Bank
Vietnam is forecast to get US$6 billion of overseas remittances in 2009, down 30% against last year, according to the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), the country’s central bank.
The central bank attributed decrease to global economic downturn, which has narrowed earnings of Vietnamese guess workers – the major overseas remitters to Vietnam.
Vietnam is the 10th largest remittance receiver among developing countries in the world.
Earlier, Le Duc Thuy former governor of the SBV predicted that the country will see its overseas remittances to shrink to US$6.8 billion this year. (Vietnam Economic Times)
