Vietnam Jan-Sept Rice Export Falls 7.8% to US$2.24B: GSO
Vietnam is estimated to have earned US$2.24 billion from exporting 4.98 million tons of rice between January and September, down 7.8% in value despite a sharp rise of 34.1% in volume from a year earlier, the government’s General Statistics Office said.
Export prices of Vietnamese rice averaged at US$449.7 per ton during the period, the GSO added.
The statistics also showed that domestic companies have already shipped abroad 350,000 tons of rice, valued at US$130 million, down 16% and 22%, respectively, from August.
The Vietnam Food Association (VFA) said local firms have signed contracts to export 6.3 million tons of rice since early this year, including 500,000 tons for delivery in 2010. The contracted volume is expected to rise to 6.7 million tons by the end. (Vietnam Economic Times)
