Vietnam, Chile Start Fourth Negotiation Round on FTA

Vietnam and Chile began the fourth negotiation round on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in Santiago on Sept 28.
 
This round is expected to address the issues mentioned in the first round, said Rodrigo Contreras, head of the Chilean delegation.
 
He added that the agreement will further facilitate the penetration of Chilean goods into the Vietnamese market and help to enhance its commercial strategy with the ASEAN bloc.
 
Trade between Vietnam and Chile jumped 39.3% on-year to US$147.71 million in the first seven months of this year.
 
Vietnam exported US$96.633 million worth of goods to Chile during the period, jumping 140.29% on-year and spent US$51.077 million on imports, down 22.4% on-year, resulting in the country’s trade surplus of US$45.556 million.
 
The Southeast Asian country exported crude oil, footwear, coffee, garments and textiles and seafood to Chile while importing bronze, cod-liver oil, fir, salmon, paper pulp, grapes and wine from the Latin American country during the period. (Vietnam Economic Times)
