The Vietnamese Ministry of Finance has decided to exempt tariffs on 92% of goods imported from Thailand from October 1.

The move is in line with the ASEAN-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership (AJCEP) Agreement effective from last Dec to 2012.

The coming exemption is expected to further accelerate bilateral trade in the next years.

Vietnam and Thailand are likely to realize the set target of boosting bilateral trade to US$10 billion in 2010, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said during his meeting with Thailand’s outgoing ambassador to Vietnam Kittiphong Na Ranong on May 18.

The two-way trade stood at US$6.4 billion in 2008, including US$5 billion worth of Vietnam’s imports and US$1.4 billion exports.
