Vietnam to Make Pangasius Fish Association Debut Soon
Vietnam has completed all necessary preparations to set up the Vietnam Pangasius Fish Association and will make it debut late 2009 or early 2010.
Huynh The Nang, vice chairman of the An Giang provincial People’s Committee, said that the association will involve administrators, scientists, export businesses, animal food processors, fish raisers and local associations in dealing with fish-farming-related problems and fish quality improvement.
Chairman of the An Giang Fisheries Association (AFA), Phan Van Danh, said that pangasius farmers are bearing loss of VND1,000/kg due to low prices. The fish is offered at only VND15,000-VND15,200/kg.
Export prices of the tra fish were US$2.23/kg during the first ten months of 2009, down US$0.02/kg from a year earlier, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers said. (Vietnam Agriculture)
