Vietnam-PM's Visit to Boost Multifaceted Ties with Russia

Vietnam and Russia have signed a series of multimillion dollar deals as part of efforts to strengthen the strategic cooperation in fields of oil and gas, nuclear power and military technique during Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s ongoing visit to Moscow. 
 
Vietnamese PM Nguyen Tan Dung held the talks with his counterpart Vladimir Putin on his visit from Dec 14-15.
 
The two PMs discussed specific measures to deepen the strategic partnership and comprehensive cooperation already agreed by the two governments, particularly raising two-way trade to $10 billion within next few years.  
 
They later witnessed the signing of two deals on exploiting oil and building Vietnam’s first nuclear plant, another deal on setting up a $500 million joint venture investment fund and a memorandum of understanding on military cooperation.
 
Regarding education, the two sides agreed to set up a Vietnam-Russia international university and signed an accord to recognize education degrees of each other.
 
Russia also announced it will grant 300 scholarships for Vietnamese students every year from the next school year.
 
PM Dung earlier paid a courtesy visit to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
 
Dung and Medvedev on the occasion informed of mutual senior visits in 2010 when the two nations will celebrate 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties, including a visit to Russia by Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh in the first half of the year and Russian President Medvedev’s visit to Vietnam to attend the 2nd Russia-ASEAN Summit in Hanoi.
 
PM Dung and his delegation left Moscow late Dec 15 for Copenhagen to attend the 15th United Nations Climate Change Conference. (www.chinhphu.vn)
