Vietnamese small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) take the lead in Asia in confidence index, showed a recent survey by the Hong Kong & Shanghai Banking Corp. (HSBC).

The survey, the fifth by HSBC indicated that 66% of Vietnamese SMEs interviewed said that they will increase investment for their projects, and 32% will maintain their operations scale this year.

Meanwhile, 54% of local firms disclosed that they will re-employ workers, 30% of them said they will raise their staff by 20% and only 1% of them said they plans to reduce their workers.

Vietnamese SMEs expected a better recovery of the country’s economy in the next six months, said Director of HSBC Vietnam in charge of business financial and service sector Huynh Buu Quang.

The survey conducted in the fourth quarter of 2009 covered over 6,000 SMEs across 20 markets in Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and Latin America. (vietnamplus)
