World Bank Pledges More Supports for Vietnam to Deal with Climate Change
The World Bank has pledged to increase its supports for research and measures to help Vietnam cope with the effects of climate change, Victoria Kwakwa Country Director of the bank in Vietnam said.
Victoria Kwakwa made her pledge at a conference in Hanoi Feb. 4 to announce the World Development Report 2010 (WDR 2010) entitling Development and Climate Change.
Vietnam is listed among five countries that will be hardest hit by climate change worldwide, environmentalists said.
The WDR 2010 urges the countries of the world to “act now, act together and act in accordance to their specific circumstances on the issue” because not a single nation can solve the interconnected challenges.
Speaking at the conference, WB Environment Sector Coordinator Douglas J Graham said that climate change was one of the most important development priorities for the bank in Vietnam.
The country is facing difficulties when mapping out plans to response to climate change due to the shortage of flexible policies, Graham noted.
