Under the proper leadership of the Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of Tien Giang province in implementing vocational training and job introduction, local employment issues have significantly improved in recent years.
In 2009, enterprises in Tien Giang province, especially seafood exporters and garment companies, encountered numerous difficulties as production dropped 10-30 percent from a year earlier. Luckily, they managed to keep their workforce. Recruitment units introduced 21,600 jobs in 2009. Job bazaars and employment floors have gradually become familiar to job seekers and employers, thus helping connect the two sides.
As regards labour export, job centres actively coordinated with more than 10 manpower exporting enterprises to inform local labourers of job opportunities in foreign nations although the number of registrations dropped with the global economic recession. Last year, the province sent 50 people to work in other nations (including 47 to South Korea, three to Japan, and others to Taiwan and Germany). The province also lent VND20.555 billion to 216 job creation projects, or 78.04 percent of the total funding plan of VND26,340 million, to generate 8,504 jobs.
In vocational training, to improve the quality of labour resources and accelerate job creation in 2009, the province coordinated with three vocational schools to train 2,354 students. The provincial vocational training school granted graduation certificates to 255 students, including 236 students in the first course and 19 students following the long-term programme. Go Cong Vocational School had 22 graduates and they all found jobs. Besides, the system of district vocational training centres has operated very efficiently to bring good results of vocational training and employment creation for rural people. Chau Thanh District Vocational Training Centre and Tan Phuoc District Vocational Training Centre are typical addresses for training rural people. Last year, Tan Phuoc District Vocational Training Centre trained more than 1,200 rural workers. Chau Thanh District Vocational Training Centre also taught many rural workers in 2009. According to Mr Pham Van Nhan, Director of Chau Thanh District Vocational Training Centre, last year, the centre sent its teachers to communes and villages to run agricultural classes. The centre actively guided farmers to understand and apply Global GAP standards to production to improve productivity and economic efficiency of agricultural products.
To further improve the quality of vocational training, the Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of Tien Giang province will coordinate with provincial authorities and the Ministry of Education and Training to upgrade Tien Giang Vocational High School to Tien Giang Vocational College, to be able to train 3,500 students by 2014 and 6,000 students by 2020. The province will also expand Cai Lay and Go Cong vocational schools to supply manpower to companies in industrial parks west and east of Tien Giang province.
According to Nguyen Manh Cuong, Director of Tien Giang Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, said: To meet the development demand of the province as well as labour needs of enterprises, especially those in industrial parks, the department is collaborating with vocational schools to expand training activities.
