Cao Ngan TKT Thermal Power Company – Vinacomin, with design capacity of 100 MW, began construction in 2003 and was officially put into commercial operation in the national grid in March, 2007. Assuring the continuous operation and safety of such a highly-automated establishment is a difficult task. The power of all its staff members, individually and collectively, helps Cao Ngan fulfil its duties.
Beside the production area of Cao Ngan Thermal Power Company is a collective building with 67 apartments with canteen, park, volleyball court, badminton court, football field, which all serve to meet the physical and cultural needs of its employees. In addition to fostering professional knowledge and skills for engineers and workers through training courses with international experts or sending them to study overseas, the Company always encourages and support its employees to improve their professional expertise. Currently, of 340 employees, more than 200 have graduated from junior colleges, including 100 engineers (2 MAs and 93 engineers attending post-graduate courses). The organization of production management under the group method has strengthened discipline, order, responsibility and community.
Annually the Company holds four internal sports competitions covering football, volleyball, table tennis, badminton, chess and aerobics. Clean, cool, neat, dignified, gracious is the impression gained when visiting Cao Ngan Thermal Power Company – VINACOMIN, which is quite different from the concept of a “power plant”. Cao Ngan Thermal Power has been successful in building its own culture. Director Dinh Quang Vinh said: "Care for the physical and spiritual life of all employees is included in the company’s human resource development strategy, agreed on by its leaders and initiated right from the implementation process of the project, since this is a special, highly automated production facility which allows no mistake in the operation. Building a friendly, self-disciplined and civilized working environment where the workforce is respected has created in each employee of Cao Ngan Thermal Power Company the love of their work, a strong team spirit and a positive outlook.
The company includes a liquid waste treatment area of a water plant size, with modern equipment causing no pollution to the environment. The cost of chemicals for treatment of liquid waste alone amounts to VND two million per year. The company is building an ash-originated unburned brick factory with a capacity of 3 million tiles per year, and is preparing to construct an unburned factory with capacity of 20 million tiles per year in Quarter IV of 2010.
Since 2007, the Company has provided over 2 billion kWh of power (700 million kWh/year) to the nation, contributing VND 88 billion to the state budget. In 2009, it is two months ahead of the plan.
Building Business Culture is difficult because it largely depends on experienced and intuitive leadership. Therefore, not all businesses can step from strategy building, unity of thinking and determination, to practical success. Cao Ngan Thermal Power Plant is the highlight of Vinacomin and Thai Nguyen province on environmental protection and a notable success in the creation of business culture - an intangible value which has brought economic efficiency and benefit.
