U.K. Firm Builds $30M Shoes Factory in South Vietnam
U.K.’s Freeview Industrial Vietnam began the construction of a $30 million leather shoes factory in the southern province of Tien Giang on September 18.
The plant is scheduled to be operational in early 2011 and specialized in producing leather shoes and sport shoes’ parts.
It will provide jobs for 5,000 local workers in the first phase and 10,000 in the second period.
Vietnam is now the world’s fourth biggest exporter of footwear with more than 90% of its output for shipments.
The sector’s export turnover, however, is not well-matched with the volume because of heavy dependence on imported materials and technologies as well as lack of luxury patterns.
The unstable number of workers is another problem of footwear makers in Vietnam. (
