Importantly, the event was a place to respect energy-saving electrical technologies and equipment, especially solar, wind, new and renewable energy sources.

Positive export signs
According to the General Statistics Office (GSO), the global economic recession caused export of electrical cables and wires to drop 11.61 percent year on year to US$885.1 million in 2009. But, many good signals are witnessed in early months of 2010.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade said Vietnam’s electric cable and wire exports brought in US$487.83 million in the first five months of 2010, up 100.6 percent over the same period in 2009 and equal to 40.7 percent of the full-year export target of US$1.2 billion.

According to Dr Le Thi Hong Hai of Industrial Strategy and Policy Research Institute under the Ministry of Industry and Trade said the exhibition handed businesses the opportunity to mutually exchange experience to turn out products of higher features and competitiveness.

Ms Hai proved that several companies had made great successes thanks to well-time innovations and actions. Power Engineering Joint Stock Company (PEC VN) - a unit of EVN increased the locally sourced part content to enhance competitiveness, took part in electrical parts and equipment localisation programme to turn out products alternative to imports. Dong Anh Electrical Equipment Manufacturing Joint Stock Company (EEMC) boldly invested in production expansion, new workshops and modern equipment to manufacture higher-quality products and boost competitiveness. Vietnam Electric Cable Corporation (CADIVI) applies three criteria, namely prestige, brainpower and opportunity to win the heart of customers.

According to the electrical equipment industry development plan for the period until 2015 and a vision toward 2025 approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam will invest VND136 trillion for the development of electrical equipment manufacturing industry from 2011 -2015 to make an average annual growth of 17-18 percent, to meet 70 percent of the domestic demand for transmission lines and transformers, 55 percent of the domestic demand for electric engines and common motors. Also according to the plan for the 2011-2015 period, export growth of the electrical equipment industry will be 18 percent a year and 15 percent in the 2016-2025 period. Particularly, exports of electrical wires and cables will rise 35 percent annually during these periods. This proves that the electrical equipment industry in Vietnam is being centrally invested and developed.
