Vietnam PM OKs More Funds for Forest Preservation, Development in 2011
The Vietnamese government said on its website on November 18 that the prime minister has agreed to continue allocating the state fund for forest preservation and development next year.
The funding is expected to help preserve 2.26 million hectares of forest, reclaim 400,000 hectares and plant 200,000 hectares.
The Ministry of Planning and Investment was assigned to work with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and the Ministry of Finance to realize the plan.
The PM also asked the MARD to work with relevant ministries and agencies to map out a program on forest preservation and development in the period of 2011-2015.
Vietnam will complete a plan to grow five million hectares of forest this year.
The country is estimated to have 13.39 million hectares of forest and 2.85 million hectares of land for forest development by late 2010.
Under the forest development strategy in the 2006-2010 period, the country will raise its forest coverage to 42%-43% in 2010 and 47% in 2020.
The Vietnam’s National Assembly has agreed to raise the state’s budget on agriculture and rural development by 24.4% from 2010 to VND68.92 trillion next year. (chinhphu.vn)
