Furniture Expo Opens in HCM City, Targeting Local Market
The Vietnam International Furniture and Home Accessories Fair (VIFA Home 2010) opened in HCM City on Nov 18, targeting local market, local media reported, an official from HCM City’s Handicraft and Wood Industry Association.
Nguyen Chien Thang, chairman of the association, said the five-day fair attracting 150 exhibitors is expected to link wooden furniture producers and distributors and give a boost to local furniture market.
Vietnamese furniture firms, which have focused on exports, should pay more attention to the domestic market as many as 80% of wooden furniture in the country are imports, Thang said.
The VIFA Home 2010 is a special event for the firms to introduce their products to local consumers, the chairman added.
A special feature of the event is an interior decorating house containing furniture, window blinds and curtains, lighting systems and doors of eight different local enterprises including Nha Vui, O Seven, Scansia Manufacturing Group, TTD Group, Vinh Tuong, Gosaco, Viet Collection and Khoi Anh.
Vietnam, one of the world’s leading woodwork and handicraft exporters, is expected to earn nearly $4 billion from woodwork exports and $1.5 billion from handicraft exports this year. (STD)
