Work Starts on Two Bulk Cargo Ships for Vinalines
On November 21, 2010, Ha Long Shipbuilding Company, a subsidiary of Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group (Vinashin) started construction on two 47,500 DWT bulk cargo vessels for Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines) in Gieng Day Ward, Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province.
The ships measure 190 metres long, 32.2 metres wide and 17 metres high. They are powered by 8730-KW 6RTA48T-B engines made by Polish WARTSILA Group, to reach 14.2 nautical miles per hour. Each vessel has five cargo holds with a total capacity of 64,500 cubic metres.
The construction is supervised by South Korea’s registration agency, KR, in collaboration with Vietnam Register (VR), the registration authority in Vietnam. The ships meet the latest international maritime standards. The first ship, christened HB-02, is set to be launched in February 2012 and the second one, christened HB-03, is expected to be in use in October 2012.
