The UK Climate Change Act - Presentation in Vietnam

A delegation from the UK will be presenting the UK Climate Change Act for the first time in Southeast Asia, including Vietnam.

The UK experts spoke at the seminar, “Climate Change Legislation - Implementing Action and Strategy: UK and Vietnamese Experiences,” organised by the British Embassy Hanoi and Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment on 18 March at Melia Hotel, Hanoi.

The event looked at a number of questions including: How can countries like Vietnam develop a climate change adaptation and mitigation plan and strategy? How can Vietnam implement a green development strategy to move towards a low carbon society? What is the progress of climate change strategy development in Vietnam? What are possible involvement and contributions from different sectors, particularly business and civil society?

As the UK government is very active in promoting low carbon economic development in Southeast Asia and in many other parts of the world, the seminar offers an opportunity for key policymakers, NGOs and businesses in Vietnam to understand the measures that the UK has taken to enshrine climate change action in domestic law. The event also allowed those involved in climate change policy making from Vietnam to consider appropriate tools at a national level, as well as encouraging discussion on the possibilities for legislation.
