In addition to fulfilling business tasks, the Southern Airport Corporation (SAC) has also excellently performed political tasks assigned by the Party and the State, helped accelerate the process of industrialisation and modernisation of the Vietnamese aviation industry to gradually narrow the gap with aviation industries in developed nations. Mr Nguyen Nguyen Hung, Chairman of the Board of Members and General Director of SAC, said: "SAC has, and will, always tried ‘for a life without any distance” to bring the sense of security and satisfaction after each flight.”
Serving more than 55 percent of air passengers
After 36 years of construction and development, SAC has quickly become one of best performers in the Vietnamese aviation industry. In the past five years, the southern aviation sector made marked progress with an annualised growth of 15 percent. If the passenger service capacity at Tan Son Nhat International Airport was merely 3.5 million passengers a year in 2000, the volume is 12 - 15 million passengers. The airport links Ho Chi Minh City with cities in the world and 16 provinces and cities in the country. The service quality at Tan Son Nhat International Airport meets international standards, helping polish the image and name of the Vietnamese aviation industry.
Besides Tan Son Nhat, Can Tho International Airport was invested and upgraded to serve international flight demand, with direct flights to ASEAN countries opened in December 2010. In addition, SAC invested to upgrade Phu Quoc International Airport to receive long-range aircrafts like B747, B777 and A340.
Together with Tan Son Nhat, Can Tho and Phu Quoc international airports, other local airports were also upgraded and modernised to support medium-range aircrafts like AR72 and FOKKER70 or larger ones like A320, A321 and B767 airplanes (like in Buon Ma Thuot and Lien Khuong airports).
SAC always serves more than 55 percent of total air passengers in Vietnam. The corporation’s revenues rise year by year. Tan Son Nhat International Airport alone is currently serving 43 international airlines and 3 domestic airlines, becoming the biggest airport in Vietnam.
With these encouraging achievements in the past five years, the corporation is honoured to receive the Second-Grade Independence Order, Third-Grade Labour Order, three Flags of the Government, the Vietnam Quality Construction Gold Cup 2010. The Party Committee at SAC is named “clean and strong” in the five-year stage.
Firm outreaching
To ensure sustainable and effective growth, in 2011, SAC targets to serve 18.3 million passengers, an year on year increase of 12 percent; serve 139,650 take-offs and landings, up 9.5 percent; attain total revenues of VND4,656 billion, up 7 percent from 2010. Together with these specific objectives, the key tasks of SAC in 2011 are to sustain growth, ensure safety and security of flights and operations, and speed up key projects. At the same time, the corporation will expand investment cooperation, develop non-aviation services, and improve service quality, especially at newly opened airports. In addition, the corporation will continue reorganising and perfecting its organisational structure and regulations in line with its new operating model - a one-member limited liability company, and focus on building and developing the SAC trademark in Vietnam and overseas. Particularly for new airlines, the corporation will not increase but discount service charges for them to overcome initial hard days to operate stably and effectively.
In the 2011 - 2015 period, the corporation will strengthen international cooperation and prepare all necessary conditions and plans to equities some affiliated companies. Besides, SAC will focus on implementing the Tan Son Nhat airport rehabilitation and upgrading project to boost service capacity and meet the market demand in coming years.
