During our business trip to Son La province, we were lucky enough to meet a businesswoman branded the “Iron Lady” in the Northwest. She is Dinh Thi Thu Huong, Director of Global Insurance Company - Northwest Branch (GIC Northwest). With her frank, outspoken and bold character, she has made significant contribution to the growth of the regional business community. The decisive woman is also building up the stronger presence of Global Insurance Company in the northwest region.

For the joint development of the business community
As a permanent member of the Son La Business Association (SBA) and chairwoman of the Son La Businesswomen Club, she is not afraid to argue her views and always frankly presents the difficulties the local business community faces to provincial authorities.

Understanding the roles of business associations and what members think and want, she said business development will entail good provincial development. On behalf of the business community, she hopes provincial authorities will pay more attention to business activities, help enterprises deal with administrative procedures in the simplest way, and apply measures to support businesses to get through difficulties to assert their names and positions on the market.

After more than two years of operation, SBA is home for hundreds of member companies. The formation of this business association is an important turning point for the development of the Son La business community. However, under the current hard circumstances, SBA needs more support from provincial authorities to better back up its member companies. Ms Huong hopes provincial authorities will further facilitate the development of SBA. She also expects the association will strengthen its role in supporting businesses.

Innovation for growth
As an insightful businesswoman, Dinh Thi Thu Huong has quickly brought her business to a high level of development. After just four years, GIC Northwest has become a trusted partner for people in the northwest. The success of GIC Northwest demonstrates the decisive, daring and responsible decisions of the director. She said after four years running the branch, 2011 is the toughest year. The leadership of the company is determined to overhaul GIC Northwest to operate more smoothly and catch up with the development pace of Son La province. In 2011, the company’s objectives are growth, efficiency and innovation, Ms Huong said, adding that growth and efficiency are easier tasks than innovation - a very complex issue.

GIC Northwest will develop in the right direction and will build the GIC triangle constituted by Hoa Binh, Lao Cai and Son La provinces, said Director Huong confidently. The restructuring in 2011 is expected to create momentum for growth acceleration in 2012 - the fifth year in the region.

With her sharp dynamism and willingness to live with difficulty, Director Dinh Thi Thu Huong and her employees are trying to build a strong image for the Global Insurance Company in the heart of Northwest people.
