WB Supports Mekong Delta Irrigation Management

The Prime Minister recently approved the outcomes of negotiations on irrigation management project for rural development in the Mekong Delta. 
 
The PM has authorized the Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam to ink the finance agreement and related legal documents with the World Bank.
 
The project includes four supporting components on planning and building of water resources (A); infrastructure construction for adaptation to climate change (B); water supply and environmental sanitation (C), and implementation and management of the project (D).
 
The project covers seven Mekong Delta provinces including An Giang, Can Tho, Hau Giang, Kien Giang, Ca Mau, Bac Lieu and Soc Trang.
 
The project targets to protect and strengthen the usage of water resources in the seven provinces to develop agriculture production, raise living standards of local residents and apply measures to adapt to climate change.
 
Specifically, the project will improve agricultural production and aquaculture cultivation on 120,000 hectares; upgrade irrigation system and rural roads; increase around 80,000 households’ access to clean water.
