Workshop on BAT/BEP Organised
Vietnam Environment Administration, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and Ministry of Industry and Trade and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) held the final workshop of the GEF funded project “Introduction of Best Available Techniques (BAT) and Best Environmental Practices (BET) to demonstrate reduction or elimination of unintentionally produced persistent organic pollutants (UP-POPs) releases from the industry in Vietnam” on 29 – 30 July 2011 in Da Nang City, Vietnam.
The major aim of the workshop is to present the outcomes of the BAT/BEP project as well as preliminary results from GEF-supported and other projects on POPs area in Vietnam while providing an advanced forum for international and national experts, related stakeholders to exchange knowledge and experiences in a common efforts to help the country fulfill obligations under the Stockholm Convention to phase out POPs use and production, and reduce POPs releases.
The two-year Project has been implemented by the Vietnam Environmental Administration, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and Industrial Safety Techniques and Environment Agency (ISEA), Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). The medium sized Project received a total GEF fund of USD 800,000. The project addresses capacity building on introduction of BAT and BEP and UP-POP monitoring though implementation of the pilot projects in four industrial sectors that have comparatively high potential for the formation and releases of UP-POPs comprising waste incineration, steel making, cement kiln (co-processing) and pulp and paper production.
