PV Gas to Build US$1 Bln Gas Import Docks
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung just approved a project on building a system of gas import docks in Son My commune, Ham Tan district, Binh Thuan province. The docks will include a port where ships have gas put on or taken off them and buildings used for storing gas. The US$1 billion docks project is invested by PetroVietnam Gas Corporation (PV Gas). The construction is expected to be started in 2012.
As scheduled, once completed and put into operation, the docks will be capable of receiving about 2 - 3 million tonnes of imported gas per year.
Vietnam’s current gas demand is nearly 10 billion cubic meters every year while domestic sources can only supply around 8.5 billion cubic meters. PV Gas will make negotiations to import gas from Qatar and Australia to cover the shortage of 1 billion cubic metres a year.
