Phu Quoc Island to House New Airport
The Ministry of Transport plans to build the Duong To Airport on Phu Quoc Island, in southern Kien Giang province, in 2007 with total investment of VND2,600 billion (US$166.6 million) from the State budget.
The 600 hectare airport falls under the province’s plan for sustainable transport development in Phu Quoc Island from now to 2010 and the 2020 master plan. By 2010, it will be equipped with a three kilometres-long runway capable of receiving A 320, A 321 and B 767 airplanes, will be able to accommodate 20 airplanes at a time.
According to estimations from the ministry, there will be 1.2 million visitors flying to the island in 2010 and 2.3 million in 2020.
