Bivalve Mollusc: Meeting International Standards
Six more bivalve mollusc producing areas in Vietnam have recently been recognised as qualified for exporting to the EU market by the European Commission (EC), according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
Vietnam now has 18 areas producing bivalve molluscs that meet the standards of the EU market. This is the result of a programme costing at VND1.535 billion (US$97,770) to control hygiene safety in the harvest areas.
According to VASEP, this is a firm basis for authorised agencies in the US, Japan, Canada and the Republic of Korea to accept imports of bivalve mollusc from Vietnam.
The 18 bivalve mollusc producing areas in Vietnam are mainly concentrated in eight provinces and cities, namely Tra Vinh, Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Nam Dinh, Binh Thuan, Thai Binh, Ho Chi Minh City and Kien Giang.
