The finale of the VCCI Golf Challenge 2011 sponsored by Hanoi Hotel was successfully wrapped up in Heron Lake Golf Club, Vinh Phuc province on October 9, 2011. More than 100 golfers from Vietnamese and international companies and organisations vied for the crown.
After four qualifying rounds organised in different parts of the country, 20 golfers reached the final round. Mr Nguyen Huy Tu stunningly took the trophy with 81 strokes. Mr Dam Thanh Vinh was the runner-up with 85 strokes and Mr Nguyen Van Nghia was ranked third with 88 strokes.
Ms Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dung was the champion in the Ladies Division.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Dr Doan Duy Khuong, Vice President of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and Head of the Organisation Board, said: “VCCI Golf Challenge 2011, held on the occasion of the Vietnam Entrepreneur Day, October 13, is an opportunity for Vietnamese and foreign entrepreneurs to meet, exchange and share experience, expand business connections, and strengthen business cooperation ties. This is also an activity to help entrepreneurs to practice physical strength and relax after stressful working hours.”

Remarking on the spirit of the tournament, Mr Hugues Mangot from The Warehouse, a wine supplier, said: “Although this was an amateur tournament, golfers played with their best capabilities, thus generating a professional atmosphere that caught the fancy of both players and viewers. Next year, we will definitely participate and sponsor the tournament.”
Sharing the opinion of The Warehouse representative, Ms Jane Tung Wai Chee, Senior Manager of Hong Leong Bank, said: “The tournament brought a marvellous spirit of sportsmanship. We are very pleased to be the sponsor for the tournament. We believe in business prospects in Vietnam and find opportunities for sustainable business cooperation with Vietnamese enterprises.”
The award ceremony was actually an evening gala for golfers who received plenty of gifts from sponsors, including Hanoi Hotel, Meridian Real Estate Company, Hong Leong Bank, Hanoi Golf Club, and Gamuda City. Tourism Malaysia also sponsored 30 tickets to watch Southeast Asia’s biggest tournament, the CIMB Asia Pacific Classic in Malaysia, which was sanctioned by PGA Tour and Asian Tour, to be held from October 27 to 30 2011. PGA golfers playing at this event include Camilo 'Spiderman' Villegas, Vijay Singh and Brandt Snedeker.
Thu Huyen
