CPI Sees Slight Increase in October
Vietnam’s consumer price index (CPI) in October rose 0.36 per cent against last month, much slower than the 1.1 per cent increase of the same period last year.
However, the figure represented a year-on-year increase of 21.59 per cent and a 17.05 per cent rise over December 2010, the General Statistics Office (GSO) announced on October 24.
Eight out of 11 commodity groups recorded increases ranging from 0.06 to 3.2 per cent, of which the group of food services saw the lowest price hike, which dropped to 0.06 per cent from 0.28 per cent in September.
Three commodities, including housing and construction materials, transport, and post and telecommunications saw price falls while seven others posted increases below 1 per cent.
Only educational services experienced a price hike of 3.2 per cent.
The low CPI increases of 0.13 per cent and 0.18 per cent respectively in two economic hubs, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, helped curb the country’s CPI growth in October.
