The APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting will take place in Honolulu, Hawaii, the United States of America on November 12 and 13, 2011. The summit will continue reviewing and discussing the following aspects: Regional economic integration, green growth promotion, freedom in goods circulation and environmental services and others. This is a good opportunity for Vietnamese businesses to take part in to seek cooperation opportunities and contribute to global green growth promotion.
Green growth is not only a driving force to promote the global economy but is also a model for exercising sustainable development in each nation. This includes economic development, social security guarantee and environmental protection. Building a green-growth economy will bring many benefits to the society and contributes to the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals. As a major economic organisation with 21 member economies in Asia - Pacific region, which accounts for 55 percent of the world’s GDP and 43 percent of the world’s trade, APEC always takes the lead in promoting green growth. APEC has worked together to build green growth policies, particularly in the fields of rural development, transport infrastructure, urban development, energy conservation and renewable energy. All member economies consider green growth a national development orientation in the next decades. This is an important content of the summit agenda.
Earlier, the 18th APEC Economic Leaders took place in Japan under the theme of “Change and Action”. All member economies agreed to establish a support mechanism for promoting green growth; national action for green growth; international action for green growth; and coordinated action plans for green growth aspirations. Workgroup discussions focus on four fields with special importance to green growth: Energy, sustainable transport, financing for green growth, and international trade and market.
Following this success, the APEC Summit 2011 in the United States is defined to prepare for next development. APEC cannot continue to grow with old paradigms but it needs to formulate new suitable ones to adapt to current fast-changing economies, respond new challenges to ensure regional growth and economic integration in a sustainable manner. To achieve these objectives, member economies need to endeavour to gradually eliminate policy shortcomings, realise potentials, promote green growth and encourage innovation. In this new strategy, the human will be the subject and centre. This APEC meeting will also accelerate the realisation of Millennium Development Goals and subregional and regional cooperation to narrow regional development gap among members through increased economic - commercial - investment links, technology transfer and training.
The summit will continue discussing the "APEC Growth Strategy" and continues developing five basic growth targets: Balanced, synchronous, sustainable, innovative and safe growth."
Member economies are also committed to striving for sustainable and balanced growth by strengthening financial source, increasing infrastructure investment, protecting environment towards a greener and more sustainable economy. In addition, APEC leaders will discuss other hot topics like regional economic integration, etc.
