Vegetable Exports Likely To Boom

The Trade and Industry Information Centre under the Ministry of Industry and Trade forecasts Vietnam’s vegetable exports will increase dramatically in the near future.

This is because torrential rain in some Asian countries and hoarfrost in Europe made vegetable yield in the two regions drop significantly and import demand has risen.

Vietnam’s vegetable and fruits such as blue dragon, frozen pineapple, green peas and cabbage exported to the US and Europe have recently surged sharply. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, over the past 10 months, Vietnam’s vegetable export turnover reached USD 515 million, a year-on-year increase of 40.6 percent.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade also reported that Vietnam’s vegetable exports to the Republic of Korea in the first ten months of 2011 also rose sharply. Vietnam’s vegetable export turnover to the market reached USD 16.6 million in ten months, up 95.59 percent.

Green banana, pineapple and coconut penetrated the Korean market successfully. Blue dragon was the major fruit exported to that market. Green-skin grapefruit, sweet mango and flat-seed durian also started entering the Korean market and were received favourably.

Vegetables with high export turnover in the market were fresh chilli, pumpkin, ginger and garlic.
