In the wake of robust development of the oil and gas industry, in 1994, PV Drilling, formerly PTSC Offshore Technical Services Enterprise, was a regional provider of oil and gas services in Vietnam and the Asia - Pacific region. Currently, PV Drilling is proud to be the pioneer of the Vietnamese drilling industry, with both offshore and onshore drilling services. The corporation primarily serves PetroVietnam’s projects in Vietnam and in foreign countries.
With a start-of-the-art equipment system and an experienced engineer force, PV Drilling keeps expanding and generating more profit for itself and its customers. The corporation is now specialised in providing drilling services; leasing and operating oilrigs; well testing; geophysics; installation of oil pipelines; drilling manpower supply services; inspection, maintenance and refurbishment of tubular goods, drilling tool and equipment services; design, engineering and manufacturing services; and oil spill control services. With nearly 20 years’ experience, PV Drilling has quickly mastered technology and capably served drilling projects at different levels.
In recent years, PV Drilling has robustly developed into a powerful driller as it possesses many drilling rigs and dynamic and creative drillers, thus contributing to the sustainable development of Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam). PV Drilling has gradually built up a powerful workforce and developed many new technical services to take part in all oil and gas exploration and production projects in Vietnam and throughout the world.
The turning point for PV Drilling was the investment in offshore PV Drilling I oil platform and the development of high-tech services, paving the way for PV Drilling to enjoy incredible growth in 2007. Drilling rigs are operated with the highest performance, which not only generates huge revenues but also strengthens the confidence of PV Drilling to carry out strategic objectives.
In realising the mission of becoming a leading driller and drilling service provider in the region, PV Drilling has recently invested in semi-submersible tender assist drilling unit (TAD), the first of its kind in Vietnam. At an investment cost of US$230.5 million, PV Drilling V is one of the most modern TAD rigs in the world today with many outstanding features, capable of drilling at a depth of 30,000 ft (9,100 m) in waters with a depth of up to 4,000 ft (1,200 m) in extreme weather conditions. This rig is operated with high-tech applications to drill high pressure/temperature wells, using anti-spray equipment and working at pressure of 15,000 psi (pounds per square inch), equivalent to 1,024 atm (atmospheric pressure).
It is certain that Vietnam’s mastery of deepwater oilrigs reduces reliance on foreign companies and opens up a new development trend for deepwater drilling. This helps strengthens the autonomy and internal force of PV Drilling in particular and PetroVietnam in general in oil and gas exploration and exploitation. The operation of PV Drilling V will continue the success of PV Drilling, laying another stepping stone for the corporation to become a trusted global provider of drilling services.
