Born in Nam Dinh, Mr Cao Van Khang made his career and became famed in the hardest land in the country: Pac A – Ngan Son (Bac Kan). With passion to get rich from the land, he has gradually made Bac Kan farmers’ dream and aspiration come true. It is when arid lands are woken that farmers here change their mind to build good production industry.
Modern farm model
It is nearly ten years since Mr Cao Van Khang took the very first step to initiate building model of breeding farm on top of Pac A Pass (Gio Pass) in Ngan Son District, non-stopping for rest. However, he has always burst out happily when his effort and sweat change an arid land into a well-off farm.
Noticing that top of Gio Pass has slope terrain, mild climate which are suitable for specialty variety breeding. When there was a canopy of leaves and readily prepared water source, Mr Khang developed breeding. Skipping familiar races, he sought many places to study about specialty races and bravely chose wild boar. So far, there are over 400 boars on his company’s farm, in which 100 ones are parent boars. Supported by Thuy Phuong Poultry Research Center (Hanoi), the company started to raise ostrich. The company sent some staff to study and grasp technical procedure of raising ostrich. At the end of 2006, the company had the first brood hatched. Since then, the ostriches have multiplied to 350 ones and hundreds of ostriches have been sold out to market.
Brand of ostrich meat from Hoang Giang – Bac Kan has become well-known by consumers in the Northern provinces. A part from Pac A farm (Ngan Son), Hoang Giang Limited Company also invested in a farm raising ostrich in My Thanh Commune (Bach Thong). It is expected by 2015, the farm will have 1,000 ostriches for mechandise, 1,200 boars for mechandise with the total turnover of nearly VND 20 billion.
Project of modern industry
Edible canna has been a specialty variety of Bac Kan, Director Cao Van Khang fearlessly proposed to Bac Kan province to establish project of Agro Forestry processing plant Complex in Bang Van Commune (Ngan Son – Bac Kan).
Sharing with us, Mr Cao Van Khang excitedly said that: since the company built the proposal based on the reality and the actual capacity, it is absolutely feasible. He explained that: Edible canna is a high-yield plant, which brings about VND 120 to 180 million per hectare at current price. When processed and having starch seperated, it will bring the turnover of 25 to 40 percent higher. At the moment, Bac Kan has a quite large area growing edible canna. It is expected that Ngan Son district only will have about 500 hectares by 2013 and 1,000 hectares by 2014. Upon operation of plant complex, the whole provincial industry picture will change significantly.
Once approved by functional agencies, the enterprise will install equipments comprehensively. The total area of Complex is about 25 hectares with the whole capital of about VND 70 billion, of which 75 percent is of the company. The complex operation will bring out profit of over VND 100 billion and create jobs for about 100 to 150 labors.
Given the motto of investing modern self-contained technology, taking full advantages of materials and ensure environmental sanitation, upon operation, the project will be the most modern agricultural product processing industry in Bac Kan province, helping to open a sustainable way for farmers to get rich on land.
